Cancer Treatment

The Cancer Treatment Center at United Regional has offered compassionate radiation oncology services for more than 20 years. Certified by the American College of Surgeons, the Cancer Treatment Center provides the most advanced medical equipment and technology available.

The American Cancer Society estimates that in Texas there will be over 85,000 new cancer patients diagnosed each year. Now, with the advent of new technology, many of these patients will have a much better chance for a cure from United Regional Health Care System.

The Cancer Treatment Center is home to state-of-the-art technology using linear accelerations that delivers precise radiation therapy without traveling far from home, North Texas residents have access to the same high level of technological care, as do the residents of much larger metropolitan areas.

The Cancer Treatment Center at United Regional offers IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy), the most precise and sophisticated treatment in the world. Clinicians at United Regional will use the new SmartBeam IMRT system to treat patients with prostate, breast, head and neck, lung, pancreatic and other cancers where precisely placed beams can be focused to carefully target tumor cells without harming surrounding healthy tissue.

Radiation therapy is used today in more than half of all cancer treatments due to its unique clinical advantages. Radiation therapy is the use of high-energy radiation in the treatment and management of malignant disease. The goal is to destroy or reduce the number of cancer cells, while sparing the surrounding normal tissue. Clinicians, by enhancing the dose concentrations to the tumor, have a greater chance of eradicating the tumor while at the same time protecting healthy tissue.

We understand that successful cancer treatment depends on more than just sophisticated technology; the emotional and spiritual aspects of your treatment are equally important as the physical ones. To meet the needs of our patients, United Regional has dedicated team which offers support, education and resources to aid families in making the best healthcare decisions. Our partnership with the American Cancer Society and Hospice of Wichita Falls and the addition of the Tres Hood Memorial Cancer Resource Center, allows us to provide patients and their families with education and support. As a not–for–profit hospital, our revenues are reinvested in our technologies and facilities. The $2.2 million equipment provides our community with state–of–the–art care right here at home, funded by members of the community who care about our patients. We are excited to be the first in the area to offer these services for our patients.

What is Radiation Therapy?

United Regional also has a team that is dedicated to serving the needs of our patients by offering support, education and resources to aid families in making the best healthcare decisions.

In addition to our relationship with the American Cancer Society, we work with the Hospice of Wichita Falls to provide resources for many patients in our local community.
