At United Regional, experienced surgeons use advanced technology to perform many procedures with minimum inconvenience, discomfort and recovery time for the patient.
Sometimes called minimal–access or “keyhole” surgery, minimally invasive surgery is one of the exciting recent developments in medicine. A minimally invasive procedure is performed via a small opening instead of a long incision. Usually a small camera called a laparoscope is inserted to guide the surgeon. After the procedure, the opening can normally be closed with just a stitch or two; sometimes even with just surgical tape.
For the patient, minimally invasive procedures have several significant advantages over "open" surgery.
The body endures fewer traumas than open surgery.
Minimally invasive procedures require much smaller incisions than open procedures and most of the time, incisions can be made in an inconspicuous place–under an arm, below the “bikini line” or even the belly button.
The smaller the incision, the lower the risk of infection.
There is simply less to worry about with minimally invasive surgery. At United Regional, you can feel even better knowing you’re in the care of an experienced team of surgeons.
