United Regional’s Outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation staff is committed to helping improve the quality of life for those we serve.
The goal of the program is to control and alleviate the symptoms of respiratory impairments and to teach patients how to achieve optimal capacity to carry out the activities of daily living.
The 18–week program has proven beneficial for those with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), Emphysema, Chronic Bronchitis, Asthma, Alpha I Antitrypsin Deficiency and Interstitial Lung Disease. The program includes exercise and education on topics such as environmental irritants, nutrition, work simplification, oxygen use and much more. Entry to the program requires physician approval.
In addition to the 18–week program, the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Department offers the Breath Savers Support Group. The support group meets every other month and is designed for adults with pulmonary diseases to offer another avenue to learn more about their disease, develop self–care skills for a more active life and to find support among others with pulmonary disease.
