Summary
The American Cancer Society estimates 232,570 new cases of invasive breast cancer in U.S. women in 2014. The statistics are high and for this reason, women tend to become uneasy when finding a lump in their breasts.
The Facts
Dr. Paul Bice, Radiologist, says, “The fact is – the majority of abnormal findings in the breast, 75-80%, are of benign origin. Benign breast conditions include calcifications, fibroadenomas, fibrocystic nodules, and cysts. If a lump is found, it is likely due to one of these common conditions.
Early Detection is Key
Women shouldn’t be afraid to tell their doctor if they notice a change in their breasts. And at age 40, they should also participate in annual screening mammograms.
United Regional’s Technology
United Regional provides 3D mammography, tomosynthesis, the latest technology which helps radiologists find very small cancers, rule out ‘false positives,’ and detect cancers in dense breast tissue, which 80% of women have.
This October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we would like your help in spreading breast health education to our community. To learn more about BENIGN BREAST CONDITIONS, and early breast cancer detection, please contact Lynn Wiesen to schedule an interview with Dr. Paul Bice this week.
