Recently, children have been presenting to ERs around the nation after ingesting the high-concentrate liquid detergent from the bright, colorful laundry detergent pods. What may look to be a comfort to teething infants or a delicious treat to toddlers, these packets are toxic and can cause vomiting, wheezing, gasping, and even death.
United Regional has seen this same trend and would like to make parents and caregivers of small children aware of the risks associated with consuming these toxic pods.
What can you do to prevent a child from ingesting a laundry detergent pod?
- Keep laundry and dishwasher detergents up high and out of reach of children
- Call poison control 1-800-222-1222 immediately if you suspect a child has been exposed
DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING!
