Public Schools (K-12)

The Wichita Falls area has several Independent School Districts (ISD) which are leaders among Texas public schools. The Wichita Falls Independent School District (WFISD) has been ranked in the top 10% nationally by the SchoolMatch consulting firm. The WFISD features Career Centers, Accelerated Learning Centers, Tech Labs, and offers up to 36 hours of college credit courses to high school students. The 2001/2002 enrollment was 15,200 students and has a graduation rate which is equal to the state’s average.

A unique feature of Wichita Falls ISD is the “School Choice” program. The district has no secondary “attendance zones.” Instead, parents have the opportunity to “choose” the schools they wish their children to attend. Elementary parents may choose a school in their elementary attendance zone or one of eight elementary magnet schools. The WFISD had the #1 magnet school in the nation in 2001 according to the Magnet Schools of America Association. SAT scores in the WFISD averaged 1019 in 2001. The average teacher has more than 12 years of experience.

Private Schools (K-12)

Wichita Falls has an extraordinary selection of private schools, including several religious-based schools for all ages.
