Preparing for Surgery
Preadmission Instructions
Hospital patients are encouraged to complete preadmission before any scheduled procedure. Once you and your physician have discussed your upcoming hospital stay, call Centralized Scheduling at 940-764-5050 to confirm or schedule your preadmission appointment.
If you reach voicemail due to high call volumes, please leave a detailed message. We will return your call within 24 hours.
What to Expect at Your Preadmission Appointment
Your appointment allows our clinical staff to:
- Perform necessary blood work
 - Review your medical history
 - Identify any health issues that may need monitoring before your procedure

You’ll also have time to ask questions about your procedure, hospital stay, and insurance coverage. A member of our anesthesia team may meet with you to discuss the type of anesthesia you’ll receive and answer any questions.
Location and Parking
Preadmission services are located inside the Transition Clinic building at 1301 3rd St., Wichita Falls, TX 76301.
Preadmission Checklist
Please bring the following items to your appointment:
- Completed admission form
 - Completed outpatient patient history form
 - All medications in their original containers
 - A copy of your Advanced Directive and/or Medical Power of Attorney form (forms and educational materials provided if needed)
 - Test results from your provider related to this admission

Medications and Preparation
- Make sure your physician knows all medications you’re taking, including over-the-counter and herbal supplements.
 - Ask your physician if you should take any routine medications on the day of your procedure.
 - You’ll receive an Express Patient Card (green or white) from your physician’s office or the hospital Admitting Department. Bring this card to the registration desk on the day of your procedure.
 - Your physician’s office will tell you what time to arrive — usually 1.5 to 2 hours before your procedure. If you haven’t received a report time, contact your physician’s office.

Day of Procedure Guidelines
- Don’t eat or drink anything, including water, after midnight before your procedure.
If instructed to take medication, use only a sip of water. - Don’t bring valuables (e.g., jewelry, wallets).
 - Bring a container for your glasses or contacts.
 - Remove any body piercings.
 - Don’t wear makeup or nail polish.
 - Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to change in and out of.
 - Don’t shave or remove hair before surgery. Your physician or nurse will do this with special clippers to reduce infection risk.
 - If you have diabetes, talk to your physician about managing your blood sugar before, during, and after your hospital stay.
 - Bring a support person. You won’t be able to drive after anesthesia. Your support person will drive you home and receive discharge instructions.

Discharge and Follow-Up
After discharge, you’ll receive specific home care instructions. These may include a follow-up appointment with your physician.
If you had outpatient services, we’ll follow up with a phone call to check on your recovery and ensure you received excellent care.
