United Regional and the Mother Baby Unit are proud to offer a 24/7 Obstetric Emergency Department. Our expert staff work quickly to triage and identify pregnancy-related emergency conditions, providing the best possible outcome for you and your baby.
                Labor and Delivery Emergencies: What to Expect at United Regional
For Pregnancies of 20 Weeks or More
if you are experiencing an obstetric emergency, you may go directly to the Obstetrics Emergency Department (OBED) in Bridwell Tower. You do not need to check in at the Bridwell Tower front desk. You may also be admitted through the main Emergency Department.
For Pregnancies Under 20 Weeks
Please go to the main Emergency Department — unless your obstetric provider recommends otherwise.
Support Person Guidelines
You may have one support person with you during your OBED visit. Children under 14 are not permitted.
What to Expect During Your Visit
To assess your condition, and the baby’s, your care team may perform:
- Observation for up to four hours
 - Fetal and uterine monitoring
 - Lab tests, including blood draws and urine samples
 - IV fluids
 - Medication administration
